Midjourney V7: First Impressions

Midjourney v7 dropped in early 2026 with massive improvements in photorealism, consistency, and prompt adherence. After generating over 500 images across different styles and use cases, here's my full review.

Pricing

| Plan | Price | Fast Hours | Images/Month | |------|-------|-----------|--------------| | Basic | $10/mo | 3.3 hrs | ~200 | | Standard | $30/mo | 15 hrs | ~900 | | Pro | $60/mo | 30 hrs | ~1,800 | | Mega | $120/mo | 60 hrs | ~3,600 |

No free plan in 2026 — the trial ended in 2023. But the $10/mo Basic plan is reasonable for casual use.

What Changed in V7

Photorealism

V7's photorealistic output is genuinely stunning. Portrait photography, product shots, and architectural renders look like real photographs. The improvement from v6 is dramatic.

Prompt Adherence

One of Midjourney's weaknesses has always been following complex prompts precisely. V7 is dramatically better — it actually renders what you ask for, including specific text in images.

Consistency Mode

New in v7: you can generate multiple images of the same character or scene with consistent appearance. This is huge for designers creating character sheets or storyboards.

Speed

V7 is 40% faster than v6 in fast mode.

Midjourney V7 vs Competitors

| Feature | Midjourney v7 | DALL-E 3 | Adobe Firefly | |---------|--------------|----------|---------------| | Photorealism | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | | Artistic styles | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | ⭐⭐⭐ | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | | Prompt adherence | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | | Commercial license | ✅ (paid) | ✅ | ✅ | | Free plan | ❌ | ✅ (via ChatGPT) | ✅ | | Text in images | ✅ (improved) | ✅ Excellent | ✅ Good |

Final Verdict: 9.2/10 ⭐

Midjourney v7 is the best AI image generator for artistic and photorealistic output. The consistency improvements make it far more useful for professional work.

The lack of a free plan is the main drawback — but if you're serious about AI-generated imagery, the $10/mo Basic plan is worth every penny.
